Minutes of the HIV Incarcerated Task Force

May 31, 2006

 

 

The meeting commenced at approximately 2:15 PM.

 

In attendance were: John Kirby, Frank Moreno, Joanne Oliver, Diana Perez, Leticia Ponzarizni, Ron Snyder, Roland Souza and Martha Tadesse.

 

Frank opened the meeting at 2:15 PM, and thanked everyone for coming.

 

Introductions were made.

 

 

REPORTS:

 

HIV Commission: Ron reported on adopting Year 16 Planning Council Support Budget as presented, Adopting Year 17 priority rankings as presented.

 

Treasurer: Ron Snyder reported that expenditures for the month were $25.90 for web, and our balance was -$123.60.

 

LA Jail Update: Joanne reported that most everything was running smoothly at the jail. She did state that we needed to have at least one more transitional case manager. She also presented everyone with information on the 23rd Annual Sports & Cultural Event on July 2-8 held by Ethiopian Sport Federation in North America.

 

Prison Report: Roland reported all providers now are wearing protective vests in Chino yards. He is still working on arranging for our meeting at Chino.

 

Public Comment: John Kirby reported on RFA with Tarzana on services for post-incarcerated.

 

 

Old Business:

 

Letter of Support: The letter was presented to the body and John suggested we speak to Del Sayles-Owen at CDCR about it. Ron stated he would call Del and also call Robert Storm.

 

Bill AB 2383: The bill for mandatory HIV testing upon leaving prison was completely changed to try to hide mandatory testing and included so many other requirements that the bill died due to extreme costs to the state.

 

Mentoring Program: Item tabled until next meeting

 

 

New Business:

 

Pride Festivals: It was to late for participation in LA Pride or Long Beach Pride but Frank would follow up for Latin Pride

 

Steering Committee Meeting: The body decided that it would be held the second Tuesday of the month.
