Minutes of the HIV Incarcerated Task Force

 Los Angeles County

February 22, 2006

 

The meeting commenced at approximately 2:15 PM.

 

In attendance were: Nicole Argandona, Gilbert Bazan, Kerry Ferguson, Estela Marquez, Joanne Oliver, Diana Perez, Jerry Rodriquez, Ron Snyder, and Roland Souza.

 

Kerry opened the meeting at 2:15 PM, and thanked everyone for coming.

 

Introductions were made.

 

The agenda and minutes from December 7, 2005 were both approved,

 

REPORTS:

 

HIV Commission: Ron reported he was in the hospital and missed the meeting.

 

Treasurer: Ron Snyder reported that expenditures for the month were $45.90 for web, and our balance was -$45.90.

 

LA Jail Update: Joanne reported that the jail was off of lockdown and things were getting back to normal. Approx. 40 inmates from the K-11 unit were declassed and reclassified as mental health and moved to TTCF.

 

Prison Report: Roland reported that Chino was currently chaotic and that C-REP had another personnel change.

 

Public Comment: Estela announced that the Salvation Army was having a providers meeting and if anyone was interested she could supply the info. Tarzana Treatment Centers opened a new transitional house for HIV- Transgenders. HIV Epi is working on a research project and is in need of Heterosexual Members, mainly minority women. Gilbert Bazan is the contact person for the project.

 

Old Business:

 Letter of Support: The letter was to be completed by the steering committee and brought back to the body by next meeting.

 

Health Fair: This item is on hold until there is a replacement found for Tracy Jordon.

 

Rehab Program:  The women clients are having a problem with this program and Ronnie suggested that the clients need to file an 1824 form.

 

New Business:

Steering Committee Meeting: March 15th, 12:30 PM at Roy’s
